Re: Improving Timex/Sinclair Tape Loading

That's a nice looking board you're working on Lardo--much better than my cobbled together effort. I'm excited for you. You've answered most of your own questions. Refer to the circuit diagram for the rest, as "top" is somewhat arbitrary. The stripe on the diode goes where the "line" is on the circui...

Re: Pictures of Our Babies.

Wow! Those are some pretty serious looking machines! Well done, all. I wish I spoke (read) German to know what the heck those behemoths actually do.

Pictures of Our Babies.

I'm not a new poster, but this seemed a logical place for the link below, to "my collection" of classic 80's retro-computers, including that first ever ZX81 that I assembled from the kit. https://imgur.com/a/dD4xq Not to plug a website I have no connection with, but imgur is a nice site for posting ...

Re: Improving Timex/Sinclair Tape Loading

Just wanting to keep the ball rolling here,... If given a parts list I can order and bag the kits? There is a parts list in the original article .pdf file. How "complete" would we want the kits to be? In my own case, I have things like resistors, battery holders, and switches already in my junk box,...

Re: Improving Timex/Sinclair Tape Loading

Will a cassette cable for the ZX81 do the job? Sure it would, it's made for that after all. It's just a shame to carve up a vintage Zeddy cable. I've managed to find some Chinese ones on eBay Canada now. (I looked for "mono shield mini plug".) I'll buy a couple of 3' patch cords and cut them in hal...

Re: Improving Timex/Sinclair Tape Loading

Any progress on the PCB? sirmorris? There are 3 "firm" hats in the ring, and my wishy-washy expression of interest which I will now firm up. So that's: Lardo Boffin Dim_75 gammaray TMAOne Is the diagram capture from the article usable, or do we still need someone to design a new board? Well, except...

Re: Improving Timex/Sinclair Tape Loading

Standard red led. forward voltage ~ 2-3v, forward current 10-30ma. Really there's no hard criteria here. Yes anything you can scrounge should do just fine. It's like the black & white stripes--it's just visual feedback, and you get "a feel" for what volume setting works best after a couple of LOADs...

Re: Improving Timex/Sinclair Tape Loading

I'm gratified that my little "tape cleanup box" may have a litter of cousins soon. I might even spring for one of the circuit boards myself. Since the only "expensive" (not really) component is the silver-mica capacitor, and I have a spare, it would be fun to build one on a proper board. In 1983 I w...
