Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Hi RetroTechie, Sounds like you want some MIDI interface hardware to go with that Raspberry Pi. Then you could (for example) have a synthesizer/keyboard play a song through its MIDI OUT port, and capture that data on the RPi. Or grab a .mid file, use the RPi to send it to a synthesizer mod...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Hi Mark, The built in mono cassette decks on computers including the Amstrad made Sinclair ZX Spectrum +2 (coloured dark grey), and the Amstrad made Sinclair ZX Spectrum +2A and +2B (both coloured black), are really only intended for loading and saving computer programs. The audio connector (a 3.5mm...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Thanks RetroTechie, Depends on the CD-ROM, hey? Personally I'd toss that CD-ROM in the bin. And perhaps that book, too. Well that's probably WHY the shop gave it to me for FREE! lol It actually cost £28.99 in 1998! Btw. have you thought about what sort of programs you'd like to write? I am going to ...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Hi, If your interest is embedded systems, low-level hardware projects etc, then C programming + an Arduino may be the way to go. If writing apps / games for mobile phone is your target, have a look at their various S oftware D evelopment K its and/or languages used, and a phone or tablet that you ca...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Thank you Retro Techie, and if there was any point in installing MS OFFICE So make that LibreOffice... But well, yes: that if you have your RPi running (and not your PC/laptop/whatever), and it's internet-connected, and you happen to come across a .doc file, you could download & open it directly on ...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Thanks a lot RetroTechie, For the time being, using the model A on purpose because it is the most resource-constrained RPi. Performance-wise, it feels like a sluggish P2/P3 era machine trying to cope with a Windows XP install that has everything and the kitchen sink installed. :P Yes it runs a moder...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Hi Rwap, Do you mean MS Office 2007 for Windows? Currently the RPi runs Linux so Office won't run on it (unless you can use some sort of Windows emulator on it...). The new RPi (2015) will apparently have Windows 10 at some point. Yes, MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 . I believe that the BETA TESTER for Win10...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

bump! Is there not a ZX SPECTRUM due for release soon which is like a virtual one which appears on you TV screen, though with the absence of a physical keyboard (or something like that!)? Perhaps this is already being discussed in another thread here? I think this may be what I was referring...

Re: RE : (Newbie Hello! / ZX Advice Please?)

Hi,

I have OFFICE 2007 of which I am only using 2/3 licenses. Can you (would you) install OFFICE on a RPi or is this not possible (or little point)?

Thanks,

Paul
