ZX81 BASIC Programming Book
ZX81 BASIC Programming Book
Hmm - this has confused me - how big should the ZX81 BASIC Programming book be?
I have three different versions which are bound (probably have a ring bound one somewhere).
Two are 212 pages - one is in Spanish (first edition), the other in English (2nd edition reprint 1982).
I then have one which is only 156 pages in English, and is supposed to be the 2nd edition, 1983 reprint

Re: ZX81 BASIC Programming Book
I too have the three types The ring bind is the earlier one the straight bound one was usually sent out with issue three zeddies and the slim one I seem to recall was a last gasp effort as the zeddie went out of favour.
Moggy.

Re: ZX81 BASIC Programming Book
I have english issue (156 pages) and german issue (212 pages).
I think there is no difference, the german has a nice picture and a following blank page between the lessons which adds about 60 more useful pages.

Re: ZX81 BASIC Programming Book
I have three English copies:
- The one in the best condition is a ring bound one. It says on the first page that it is a "First Edition" and has a copyright message "© 1980 by Sinclair Research Limited". On the last page (212) it says "Printed at The Leagrave Press Limited, Luton & London" and on the back cover the address listed is: "Sinclair Research Limited", "6 King's Parade, Cambridge CB2 1SN England".
- The second one is a bit tatty and appears to be the same as the one above, except that it is missing the first page with the edition and copyright details.
- The last one is a normal paperback type book. The details on the first page are: First Edition 1980, Second Edition 1981, Reprinted 1982. The copyright notice is "© 1980 by Sinclair Research Limited". On the last page (212) it says "Printed at The Leagrave Press Limited, Luton & London" and on the back cover the address listed is: "Sinclair Research Limited", "25 Willis Road, Cambridge CB1 2AQ England".

56 / 2 = 28
There are 28 chapters...
Easy money saving a little bit on the printing and transport costs

It turns out I currently have a few manuals hoarded safely stored in my office:
There are:
Spiral bound -
4 * First edition from 6 King’s Parade - no obvious mention of who printed them
1 * Second Edition 1981 from 6 King’s Parade - printed at The Leagrave Press
3 * Second Edition Reprinted 1982 from 6 King’s Parade - printed at The Leagrave Press
Perfect bound -
1 * Second Edition Reprinted 1982 (212 pages) from 25 Willis Road - printed at The Leagrave Press
3 * Second Edition Reprinted 1983 (160 pages) from 25 Willis Road - printed by Richard Clay Ltd
Does anyone have any other variants?

A two minute search in my bookcase has so far found six ZX81 manuals and four ZX Spectrum 16k/48k manuals... (and that's not including me going near any storage boxes!)

Re: ZX81 BASIC Programming Book
Thanks Mark.
Where did you see the printer’s information in the First Edition? I couldn't find it.

Re: ZX81 BASIC Programming Book
would it be too much to ask for a photo or scan of one page? First Edition "Appendix A - The character set" towards the back
Reportedly it differs from the newer editions. The page in question from the Second Edition (1981) is here
thanks in advance
