Better late than never :)

Post by msellan »

Hello all,

I've been registered on this forum for quite a while but have never posted anything. At the end of last year I decided to dust off my ZX computers and start tinkering with them again. Anyway, I've been reading all the incredibly helpful posts here and thought it was time to move from lurker to participant. :D So hi everyone and thanks for maintaining this amazing little community all these years.

Btw, I recently scanned some more of the original paperwork I have from the order of my original ZX80 and have it posted on my blog along with the full story (and long - just giving you fair warning) at http://geekworldliving.com/sinclair-zx80/ If you're interested in ephemera, it might be interesting to you. Plus I have more to scan and will keep posting more as I get it done.

Best,

-mark

P.S. I almost forgot! I'm the guy who bought the recently listed "pristine" ZX80 on eBay. I'll have details and pictures of that for you soon! ;)

As you can tell from my avatar, I'm definitely a fan of this heretofore unknown (to me) particular British colloquialism.

Hahaha, yes. Someday I'll write up a post about my interactions with the US offices of Sinclair. They were an interesting operation for sure.

Hi Darren,

Welcome to the forums. I'm glad you enjoyed reading about my trials and tribulations with Sinclair. How did you come to your interest in Sinclair ZX computers?

Hi mark.

My First Ever Computer was a ZX81, way back in 1984 ! Mum refused to Buy me a Computer, as they were too expensive for a Single Mum with 4 Kids, so I had to Save up all my Pennies to Purchase 1. (I was 14 at the time and could Not Afford a ZX Spectrum)

I Traded in my "INTELEVISION" for the ZX81, at a 2nd Hand Shop in Halifax UK. The ZX81 came with a MEMOPACK??? RAM Pack with a Whopping 16kb RAM !

I was Really Excited with my Deal, My First ever Computer, until I got it Home, and like yourself, found the ZX81 was a B&W Computer with No Sound!!!

(Try telling a 14 year Old why the ZX81 had an EAR Socket bat No Sound!!!) ;) "Can I have my INTELEVISION back Please SIR?"

I must admit, I had a lot of Fun Programming on my ZX81, and playing the odd Cassette Game.

I learned how to Load and Save to Cassette, write small Programs i.e. 10 PRINT "HELLO MARK" : 20 GOTO 10 : RUN : which eventually came in useful when I Migrated to the ZX Spectrum 48k, MSX 64k and the Commodore 64.

Only recently have I once again acquired a ZX81 (2 Actually) bith Timex 1000's.

Been having a Good Old Tinker, a Nice trip down Memory Lane! ;)

Eventually I went over to the IBM & PC, but as a Repairer I do not find the $$$ in it any more, too many PC Hatchits out there. So Now i repair RETRO Computers such as the Commodore 64, C128, C16 +4, AMIGA, ZX Spectrum, ATARI and More. People Throw Money at you to repair these Old Gems! ;)

Happy Gaming,

Darren in OZ (amigaman07)
