Suggested hardware configuration: ZX81, ZXpand+, UDG-4-ZXpand, Joystick.

EO configuration (V1.6+): ZXpand, AY sound, CHR$16 character generator, RAM at 8K, protect ROM from writes.
I am using EightyOne 1.7 to run "Zedragon"

I have it running on Windows. For sound in EO, the post says use AY. I do not find "AY" in list of sound generation.

and I do not get sound.

Are there ZxPand files I need to update?

Rather than a simple AY option,Eighty One lists various sound devices that use AY as per your screen-shot.
The one required in this and most instances is the Zonx unit.
The AY emulation on Eighty one is slightly borked and as a result the music will sound fairly crap(composers modesty notwithstanding) the effects slightly less so.

Eighty One and AY are not good bedmates to be honest which is a shame as it along with SZ-81 are the only two emulators capable of running the AY composition/player software created by Andy Rea.

I use these settings to play Zedragon on my Mac using SZ81 version 2.3.8. SZ81 also works on Linux. The green highlight shows the default, the inverse shows the current setting.

Don't know about the Linux or mac versions but with the windows version leaving the unreal box unchecked causes the main envelope generator to be switched off.

I know Erik added this feature to make the AY a bit more spicy but, on the windows version at least, leaving it switched off means you get the pretty hiss and bleeps of the tone module but none of the bottom end grunt the envelope generator provides.
