What about a 1500 clone "Spec' Jr."

Post by gammaray »

Inspired by the Minstrel ZX80/81... and the new Spectrum retro cases.

What about a repackaged ZX81 into the Spectrum case form like the TS1500? Use original ULA's...

At my age, I need a monocle to read the Zeddy keyboard :?

The keyboard would be larger tactile with the KDLX for the Spectrum.

At the moment I am really busy with a ZX80 memory expansion that fits inside the 3K RAMPACK case (which I 3D Print).
Its going to have some nice gimmicks, but that needs time.
I am waiting for PCBs and chips coming from china.
After this I would really like to design a TS1500 clone. I have one original that I hardly dare to touch....
I have ordered a spectrum case.
The most difficult thing (for me) will be the printing on the keyboard and the faceplate.
If some would start at these issues that would be really handy. I guess we cannot convince djordje to make these.
I once asked him and he asked back for data and and estimation of sales

On the other hand ***IF*** there will be a spectrum next this could also be the basis of a good TS1500 clone...
Kind regards
Paul
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.

For the faceplate, how about a chromecoat adhesive backed printed overlay to go over any faceplate. Apply then cut out key-holes with razor knife.

Maybe.

Not as clean, but for keys use similar printed but die cut stickers for rubby' keys.

Nah. These really need silkscreening.

Need blanks of faceplates and unprinted rubbies.

On second thought if someone is selling keyboard stickers AND THEY ARE ON EBAY. The demand for those indicate the sales potential for a physical replacement.
