Re: RF Video Distortion

Thanks chap :) Well, I got itchy fingers and put the new Z80A into the Zed, and it worked straight off the bat. I think I'm starting to get a bit better at soldering as well as de-soldering now too, which is nice 8-) The weird thing is, I'm sure it is faster now... it just feels snappier somehow, un...

Re: RF Video Distortion

Thanks again Mark - as you might have guessed, I'm a bit of an electronics neophyte, so I'm cautious when I'm doing something new. I've fitted both the parts to the Zed and the Speccy, and have tested the Zed, which I've also shortened the wires on the Pokemon Composite board, as suggested earlier i...

Re: RF Video Distortion

Thanks for that - just to clarify further, we're looking at the pins of the old regulator from the printed side, I presume, as my old reg doesn't have a dot on it. Is it standard practice to have Input/Gnd/Output from left to right?

Re: RF Video Distortion

My Traco Power rectifiers have arrived... now I need to scout about and find which way round to orient them! Unless anyone's got the answer right here, I'll have a shufti at some schematics :)

Re: RF Video Distortion

I've taken some white paint to the logo on my Speccy this avo and it's looking quite nice at the moment. Needs a little touching up, but I was using a Windsor & Newton 000 Series 7 paintbrush, which has a very fine point, and resting my hand on the case to keep it wobble-free.

Re: RF Video Distortion

Well, I went and bought a pair of regulators (one for the Zed, one for Speccy), plus a z80, and will see how I do with the install. I've got a new keyboard membrane from Rich at RWAP now and have installed that, as well as the membrane and faceplate I bought for my Speccy, but there's a break in the...

Re: RF Video Distortion

Sweet. I see a Farnell order coming on.. :D Me too  Thanks for the info too Mark, I think that using up less power is a good thing, and should extend the life of my board, as well as saving some money in the long term, and with the price of electrickery these days, it won't be long before it ...

Re: RF Video Distortion

Very interesting 8-) Will the power regulator be more efficient & generate less heat? Doesn't seem to be anything there to attach a heat sink to, so would that be redundant? On the new Z80, what's the benefit of installing that? 10mhz? Would the board cope? All these questions and more are one of th...

Re: RF Video Distortion

Thanks - I've just ordered one off eBay. Is the voltage regulator hideously inefficient, and if so, is there a more modern and energy efficient alternative? It seems wasteful to burn all that electrickery to heat up that big Square of aluminium

Re: RF Video Distortion

Ah, didn't know that :) that might go on version 2 of the mod before I put the case back on. When you say that the black lead can go inside the modulator, do you mean attaching it to the shell as ground? As an aside, does the ULA usually get hot enough that it is painful to touch? Same goes for the ...
