Re: Pictures of my ZX81 fitted with a RECOM 5V Regulator

Looks very neat and tidy, I might add those caps next time I open my ZX81 up!

Re: ZX8-CCB vs ZXVid

I'd advise patience on eBay. I picked up 5 "untested" ones from there for £40 lately and aside from having to trim down a couple of membrane tails they all work perfectly!

All but one of mine have socketed ULAs (the exception being the issue 3)

Re: 8MHz Z80 on Sell My Retro

Regulated 7.5v definitely makes a huge difference on my ZX80 compared to my Sinclair PSUs. Hard to say how much cooler the switching regulator in my ZX81 is. Maybe worth trying that as a first step towards a cool running system? I agree with Mark, having fitted switching regs to my ZX80 and 81's I ...

Re: ZX8-CCB vs ZXVid

I've fitted quite a few CCBs and they are great, including one to a ZX80. Brilliant things and it's possible to go (almost) totally solderless on the install if you are so inclined - I didn't want to modify my ZX80 I wrapped the 5v and video in wires around the existing ones going into the modulator...

Re: ZX8-CCB vs ZXVid

I use this from Maplin's http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/60w-mains-lcd-solder-station-a55kj?cmpid=ppc&gclid=CjwKEAiAyO_BBRDOgM-K8MGWpmYSJACePQ9CPihUPL7HHS2Ffqe9RmH0hToAWSTROsipFBJb5c6CHBoCVfTw_wcB It's brilliant and you can use it with Hakko tips which are only a few quid for a pack of 10 on eBay. (Which ...

Re: ZX80 Oddity with Replacement ROM

There is a Dutch site that has "1000's" of files on offer(the URL escapes me for now), along with a few nasty little Trojans as well! I think I've found the site you mean, it's a very nice resource but due to the aforementioned Trojans I'm reluctant to post a link! Rich sent me both the non-working...

Re: Hi-res issues with ZXpand

Great news :D Just as a qualification of my question about the internal 16k expansion I'd like to say that if an internal RAM expansion doesn't disable itself when the ZXpand is connected then you'll have two RAM chips driving the bus. If the CS pin of your expansion uses the existing CS signal the...

Re: Hi-res issues with ZXpand

YUP LOAD"25ANNI";X Which loads file then disables the EPROM. A reset is needed to restore but I don't think that's the problem here. Cheers. That has actually worked! Yay! I've just read it in the manual today so an important lesson here - RTFM! This isn't something that bothers me as long as it's ...
