Good points Mark, a lot of people stuff there power supplies down the back or hidden in a corner and then wonder why they get hot!
Or even coil cables up while on!

The heat generated by the transformer is wasted energy is it not? :p Even if there were vents to dissipated the heat. Quick update, 16k RAM pack is fixed followed a guide on here to check systematically for faults, all voltages were ok, so I socketed all the ram chips, replaced all the caps, checked transistor, re-flowed all the solder joints... nothing Checked continuity on the ribbon cable, seemed ok but was a bi...
