Re: Alphacom 32 PSU?

The PSU supplied with my brand new Alphacom 32 is same as image here

A few years ago I measured output as 30V AC (RMS) offload, dropping to 27.7V at 0.87A when the printer was chugging away.

Re: NiMH Batteries@Z88

Interesting idea, you would have to use a diode in each of two dummy cells to drop to around 6V to Z88. Without you could overdischarge Li-on cells below the 2.4V limit without Z88 battery low symbol showing.

Re: Mains adapter attached?

No, and that is why one of the first things I did after buying Z88 (in late 1980's) was to add a red LED in the mains adaptor. Too often I would be happily sitting there busily using Z88 thinking the mains was on, but I had forgotten to switch the damn thing on at the wall! Postscript: Meaning the b...

Re: NiMH Batteries@Z88

I don't generally use NiMH in Z88 since the fall off in voltage is quite quick and unexpected compared to alkaline (IMHO). I just use Duracells whenever I have a session using Z88 and don't want lose anything if it is left idle for a while.

Interface 1 with 128K Spectrum

I have a 128K Toastrack Spectrum which I haven't used in a while (just needs new membrane). Back in the day it wasn't too reliable when Interface 1 (IF1) and microdrives were attached, whereas my 48K Spectrum+ worked flawlessly with IF1 and microdrives. From what I recall the problem was that the Z8...

Re: ROM hacking

I can see how ZX97 adds new commands (albeit via FUNCTION 0-9) by adding CALL's in syntax and scanning etc. But I don't see how you can (as easily) add true functions (ie. unary like PEEK). I wanted to add IN (& OUT) but have had to resort to using PEEK (& POKE). If address is <256 then do IN or OUT...

Excellent, I've got 32K battery backed RAM 8K-paged at 40-48K (for H4th Forth block filing). I can use that for temporary data.

Re: AY-3-8910 (AY/YM) music generation?

Hi Tim, I'll tidy my ZX81 STC/SNG programs so they don't require my QL set up. I've also done programs to list completely contents of STC & SNG files, which make it easier to peruse song and samples/ornaments. Re ZX81 Tracker, I've only used it on EightyOne since (IIRC) it needs ZXpand for filing. M...
