I don't know if you noticed, but the files you downloaded are hosted on a real zx81, not a webpage on a 'regular' server. Yes, that ZX81 is online.

The 'sound' is actually a result of noise within the computer's circuitry (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The programs that appeared on magazines and books tried to control that interference to some extent, resulting in what you could call 'sound'. :) I don't remember if it comes out of the mic p...

The BASIC is different on each one. I've been reading books and magazines with BASIC listings, and for some time each program had two versions, one for each computer. Some people upgraded their ZX80 to make it better (replaced the rom, etc), but I can't remember if it could become a fully-working ZX...

I think I didn't use the right words. I'm like you, I would like to see old interfaces and hardware projects built. ...Btw, however it's good that new devices appeare, but actually I'm not sure if it's a good way to abandon the old ones. I'm actually one of the few who would like to have them built....

I don't have a use for it at the moment, but pictures or a download link would probably be very useful to hardware hobbyists.
If in a near future we get our own ftp, there could be folders just for hardware, schematics, and projects like the one you mentioned.
