The schematic on XavSnap was drawn by me.
Now I have the name: Didier Pous from Bordeaux. Anybody know him?
I have an email address for him - send me a PM with what you want and I will send him an email

Re: ZX81 loading of programs not working

I now that some people still mix up the EAR and MIC sockets - on a ZX81 they share the same circuit (as far as I recall), which doesn't help, but you need to ensure that to load programs, the lead is plugged into the EAR socket!

Re: Making Keyboard Membranes

Here https://www.smart-prototyping.com you can get flexible PCBs for ZX81 keyboard size for $480 for 10. That is $48 each. They make flexible pcbs down to 0.1mm. Except they are based in China - so you also have to add on US taxes and potentially import duties as well - will be close the $60 each a...

Re: Making Keyboard Membranes

I did start a discussion a few years ago about CoCo membranes but there was just not enough interest - and not helped by several different membranes in these machines. The main market seems to be in the USA and so ideally you need a manufacturer in the US because of the costs of importing them etc. ...

Re: ZX81 Some keys not working

You have a ZXpand Keyboard Membrane (blue tails). We had an issue with the bonding of the silver ink on some of these (the factory are still not sure why) so the easiest is to send you a replacement. However, it could also indicate that some of the pins inside the molex connectors are corroded or be...

Re: ZX81 Some keys not working

Thanks for the pictures XavSnap - that is helpful as we can all see the keys link to the middle pin in the 5 way connector.

It will be interesting to see what the issue is....

Re: Making Keyboard Membranes

I was actually looking to see if anyone had any information about, or experience with, making membranes... I have a number of retro machines for which no one's producing replacements, so I'm doing some research to see how feasible it would be to do runs of them. -John- I have quite extensive experi...

Re: Making Keyboard Membranes

I am working on this without using mass production molds... the reason was to make membranes that had no keyboard labels that could be customized. Otherwise use Retroradionics for replacement membranes. Charles Charles - I am actually going to have a short production run of ZX81 membranes with a bl...

Re: ZX81 Some keys not working

It is possible that the membrane has a fault - but the first thing to check is to short the 5 way connector with the 8 way using a piece of wire. Also check that are no pieces of the old membrane inside either connector (sometimes a tiny sliver is left behind). The pins on the connectors can also be...
