Re: 2k adventure
I won't be expanding it. As a 2K Adventure game it was a development novelty only--a fun exercise in coding. A full-RAM version with more rooms and features would require a redesign of some of the compromises to make to fit into 2K, and Adventure games abound in the wilds. (I think the one I posted ...

Re: 2k adventure
Thank-you Siggi. That helped a lot! Success. It took some more crash dieting, but it now fits in an un-expanded Timex-Sinclair 1000 with the core game intact. 10 SAVE "ADV2k" 60 PRINT "YOU ARE IN ";R$(R),"THERE IS ";O$(R),,,"YOU CAN GO:",,(N$ AND R<V3),,(S$ AND R<V4),,(E$ AND R=V4),,(W$ AND R=V2) 10...

Re: 2k adventure
I started my program on a "Sinclair Diet", but I don't think I'm going to make the 2K finish line without some major loss of functionality, which I'm reluctant to do. So. I have failed The Challenge. "This school is about combat gentlemen. There are no points for second place." 3KADV.p H...

Re: 2k adventure
I took a different approach. I'm a firm believer that programs should be bullet-proof and robust. But Adventure games are a challenge, especially when limiting oneself to 2K! So I tried for 4 rooms and 4 feature items. In the end it's more like 3K. Anyone care to pare it down with more of that PI/PI...

Re: 2k adventure
I also read the machine code articles for the zx81 and need the basic equivalent of LDIR, ADD and RET, if you could help with that, I'd be grateful Hmm. Not sure where you're going with this, and I'm not terribly Z80 assembler literate, but I'll take a poke at it. (Whoops,... THAT was a poor choice...

Re: 2k adventure
I honestly can't tell whether that's sarcasm or appreciation :?: Oh it was meant as applause for tackling a difficult project, definitely. Text is a bear when it comes to RAM, and 2K is not much for any code, let alone an adventure game. I think it's an intriguing prospect. How good can you make it...

Re: 2k adventure
Wow, that's a pretty high hurdle you've set yourself to. Adventure in 2K,... not easy.

Re: ZX81 rebuild
Congratulations on a very neat job Lardo Boffin. I just love a happy ending.
Now that tape scrubber prototype needs to find its way back to you so you can try loading your problematic cassettes with this machine.

Re: Why was Sinclair selling UK model ZX81s in the USA?
I'm sure gammaray is right about the molds. If you look at the pictures on eBay of the "UK" model that the OP linked to, it has a visible outline showing where the cutout would be for a VHF implementation. Two flavors, one (or more) configurable mold. All my cases show some kind of outline in the ot...
