Re: Memotech hardware

Oh, that reminds me: Stewart Newfeld, of Zebra Systems (one of the main vendors back in the 80s) is a regular. He mentioned at the last zoom mtg that he has some NOS ZX81 membranes (Newline instead of Enter). He's in the Facebook groups and on ebay.

Re: Memotech hardware

Hi Tim, You may want to also check out the groups.io TS2068 list . There's a bunch of folks active there, with both TS1000 and TS2068s. We have a monthly group meeting on Zoom (next one is Monday, March 7th, 9-11pm EST) that is then posted to YouTube . The folks there would probably love to hear abo...

Re: Greetings From Upstate New York

That is absolutely correct "zebranyc" is the ebay store/user that I purchased the kit from. Just checked back on his store and it looks like he sold the last one and now only has books, cassettes, and printer paper. Do you know him? I'm in Niskayuna, near Albany. Take care! Yes, Stewart Newfeld is ...

Re: Greetings From Upstate New York

Welcome!

I took a peek at your blog: the person you bought your kit from used to do Zebra Computers (which is how he got those kits).

I’m also in upstate: Buffalo, NY!

Re: New member from Oregon, USA

Not much movement on my US ZX81. I haven't modded him at all... He's still RF and 1k. I did play with the power jack and got a better connection there, so I was able to do a quick test on the CRT tv downstairs and saw the K!!! I do think I should replace that power jack, but the ones I see on sellm...

Re: Quick-Silva manufacturer...

This article may clear the air: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23311983.2016.1190441 QS certainly made their own hardware. Apparently, QS licensed some games from Indescomp at one point (see the wikipedia article). That may have had something to do w/ Indescomp manufacturing QS hardware.

Re: ZX81 with strange addon board soldered to it

The 4093 is often used to make an oscillator in the synth community. My suspicion is that it's a "beeper": when any key is pressed, it beeps. There were more than a few designs for this in the US.
