Re: White screen of death
Hi guys, I didn't see your last replies as I was busy pulling the ULA. Dropped in a socket and installed the ULA from my junker ZX81. It Works!!! (Actually I first tried the dead ULA in the junker machine first, just to be safe and sure.) It's a little saddening to see my old ULA dead and that with ...

Re: White screen of death
ROM removed socketed and replaced with another from a spare machine. Unfortunately there was no change

Re: White screen of death
Hi guys,
Well, when I probed D7 with the logic probe it literally showed no high, low or pulsing lights. I looked at the resistor and that looked within spec... Or at least the same as all the other for D0 to D7.
Strange.
I'll whip out the ROM and try another.
Cheers
Phil

Re: White screen of death
Hi guys, Thanks for all the great insights. To answer some of your question about the ROM, it looks like a ceramic Motorola masked ROM (basically like a ceramic EPROM without the window). Has ZCM38818C written on it. I also tried putting a 16K RAM pack in, but the results were the same...white scree...

White screen of death
So after a year or so being in storage, today I powered up my ZX81 again, and would you believe it, the white screen with no 'K' cursor. I then plugged in my ZXpand and I saw this. IMG_6140.JPG Certainly looks like the 'ZXpand commander', minus any text. I could move up and down, select something, a...

Re: Why cant I flash my ZXpand?
That helps a lot.
100% working, and I upgraded the firmware to v2.2 and the ROM to v6.6 just to be safe.
Thanks for the awesomeness.

Re: Why cant I flash my ZXpand?
Found this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=576&p=5134&hilit=pr ... pand#p5134
talking about formatting as FAT vs FAT32. This fixed my problem.
Now I'm going to look into how to get Commander to auto run.

Why cant I flash my ZXpand?
This is driving me crazy. So I want to run the Commander program on my ZXpand, so after rereading the threads I upgraded the EPROM using my burner to v6.0, and I put the zxpandfw.bin file in a newly formatted 4gig SD card, plugged the SD card in to the system and powered up. All I get it the ZXPAND ...

New retro computing site: neoncluster.com
Hi everyone, I wanted to let you all know that my new retro computing site, neoncluster.com, has finally gone live. It's still a bit of a work in progress, and you may come across some bad grammar, spelling mistakes, and the new look and feel still needs to be applied to some blog sections, but all ...

Re: Chooperdrop 3000...I'm confused!!!!
I emailed TheMrCerebro, and he was kind enough to fix the link on his web page, and I was able to download it and play it. The game actually turned out to be a Windows version of my game, while retaining the original graphics, which I think is totally novel. The major difference is that the elements...
