I had a very similar fault and it was the ULA I'm afraid

They are pretty hard to come by in the UK, but hopefully a modern replacement is coming soon.

Glad its not just in my slightly odd mind! :lol: The same goes for the manuals as well - the different editions (1st, 2nd, reprint etc) have Kings Parade and Willis Road addresses on the back. There's a similar chronology for the ZX Spectrum boxes as well, with earlier Speccies (mid Issue 2) in King...

Daft question, but was the ROM that was supplied to convert the ZX80 into a ZX81 (sort of) essentially the same as the standard ROM in the ZX81?

i.e. - can I take a ROM out of a ZX81 and pop it in a ZX80 and it'd work?

I think it's the other way around :) The sleeves I've seen have the King's Parade address on them which is the address Sinclair Research were at when the changed from Science of Cambridge.
