Re: Checking the ROM
Quite funny this, I decided to try and write a little basic program the other night to make it easy to check if the user has a original bugged, bugged and fixed with the kludge on the Z80 or fixed rom. I based it on a table I found on the net. Balford of this manor helped me with the hard maths bit ...

Re: "Different" ZX81's
One of the things I love about buying these is that you never know what you will find when you open the case! Lardo Quite true - always exciting to open one up and see what you've got - then have a play :) There are two other types of ZX81 I'm after now - one is a US issue 3 ZX81 (not a TS1000) and...

Re: "Different" ZX81's
A slightly more recent ZX81. Also working, well, apart from the keyboard. Need to see if trimming it down will help. IMG_5669.JPG Well now - you've got one of those ULA's! :) I reckon they are 2C184e ULA, but not as you normally see them with the ULA code marked on top. The 2C184e first appeared 81...

Wooop! Dead chuffed to have an early-as-you-can-get ZX81 - especially as this one works

Re: "Different" ZX81's
It's a list I've put together - I'm a little bit sad in that I like to understand timelines and the like
Thanks for your numbers, I'll pop it in the list as well.

Re: "Different" ZX81's
Thanks Lardo - you're a good'un :) I've been trying to figure the numbers on the back of ZX81 ULA's - it's dead easy with 2c158e ULA's - convinced it's the batch number - so those made in 8102 were batch 1, 8106 batch 2 etc. It also points to datecodes that I've not seen :) It all goes random after ...

Re: "Different" ZX81's
Oooh - 8109 date code ULA very nice! Like Moggy says, the next step in your quest is to acquire a kludge fixed ZX81, with that rather clever little PCB on the Z80 :D If you feel brave, could you pop the ULA out? I'm hoping it says 2C158E 03 on the bottom of it. BTW, anyone else think the earlier key...
