I just used the "slave tape" output on my 1980's prototype (pictured at the beginning of this thread) to copy an entire tape for a friend. The clone seems to load even more reliably than the original! Can't wait to see these kits distributed, once they pass muster.

Re: ZX81 ULA
(I know people say these oscilloscopes were bad, but now I know why.) They're not all bad , just not suited for everything. I have a DSO201, a 1 MHz "older brother" of yours that looks like a cell phone. I love it. I keep it in a box of "away mission tools", (just the bare essentials), and it serve...

Re: ZX80/81 & TS1000/1500 modern upgrades
My personal vote would go to the ZX-TEAM mod for 16 or 32K on the ZX81 motherboard. http://www.zx81.de/english/_frame_e.htm Everybody knows those wobbly, inept, high failure-rate 16K RAM packs are a royal pain. The "Hardware Projects" section on the ZX-TEAM site lists this mod first and foremost. It...

It's been a while. Is there any movement on this?

Re: ZX81 ULA-in-a-CPLD
Congratulations Andy!
This is truly a milestone in Zeddy history, as I know many otherwise good examples have gone to the dumpster for lack of a replacement ULA.
Good going. I look forward to them being widely available.

Re: Composite to HDMI Converter
eBay is full of ones like this from China. AVtoHDMI (600 x 600).jpg Some folks avoid the Chinese stuff like the plague, but for the price it's hard to go wrong. I use one with my Texas Instruments TI-99/4A, which is rather demanding--the "composite" video is taken from a cable that was meant to feed...

Re: Improving Timex/Sinclair Tape Loading
I never make mistakes. Once I thought I'd made a mistake, but it turned out I was wrong.
Seriously though, I'm glad to hear another dubber is on-line. Can't wait for Lardo to turn it loose on those "unrecoverable" tapes and see how many can be rescued.

Re: Direction of current flow
Mostly people mean the technical direction when talking about current flow which is more historical or conventional but not very precise. I wonder if it's a cultural thing which depends on which side of The Pond you're on. I was taught to think of current in terms of the flow of electrons, moving f...
