ZX81 in TV/movies

Post by jamesfcarter »

Hi,

I'm putting together a website that catalogues use of computer in movies and on television. I wonder whether any members of this forum know of any appearances of the ZX81 (or ZX80)? So far, I have found three: http://www.starringthecomputer.com/computer.php?c=44

Does anyone know of any more?

Thanks!

First of all, welcome!
Someone mentioned your website last week as the source of this type of info (I saw it on E.C.S.S. , the Spanish Sinclair newsgroup), and now we see you here.

I didn't know of any movies or TV shows where the ZX81 appeared apart from the IT crowed. When I saw the ones you found I said to myself "Wow!".

Here's some links that might have some information that you don't have yet, but sadly nothing about the ZX81. The websites are in Spanish, but you'll see that it's easy to figure out which computer or console appears in each movie:

I think I have another screenshot of the ZX81 in the first episode of the IT crowd. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Thanks, Bruno!

I've been able to add a few new things to my list there, mostly Spanish films but hopefully I'll be able to find some English subtitles somewhere.

I think you probably don't know this video of Frantisek Fuka aka FUXOFT (famous Czech ZX Spectrum games programmer and film specialist - www.fuxoft.cz) from his childhood, filmed by CST in 1982 in some shot about computers and youth. At the beginning, he's writing some basic program on the ZX81 and describing it... ;)

Not quite a starring role, but in Red Dwarf, Series 2 episode 5 (Queeg), Holly, the ship's computer says that:

"My first love was a Sinclair ZX81, but she was cheap, stupid and she wouldn't load - not for me, anyway."

Btw. does there exist any TV advert for ZX81? There's not so many of them for the Spectrum available on the internet, and I suppose there is nothing ever made for ZX81. But, the English people could know more ;)

I found a contemporary French TV program about ZX80

Although nobody will be interested as there are no users of the machine.
