Not exactly ZX related, but related :)

Post by MikeW »

I picked up one of these this week -

Alas there'd no PSU and from the cursory brouse around the internet it appears they need something a little different... I don't support anyone knows of the pinout for the power supply?

I assume you've seen the page on wikipedia that says it's 22.5v ac 1amp tapped at 18v and 9v ..strange!!! Haven't been able to search much more as my internet connection is playing up at the moment! As for pinouts....nope! You may have to open it up and trace out the power lines.. it most likely uses a 5v and 12v line internally, so I would assume the 9v feeds a 5v regulator and the 18v , a 12v regulator .. as for 22.5v ... ? ? ? I would like one of these computers myself but they always seem to go for prices higher than I can afford!

I think you're probably right. Well that's my job for the weekend, stripping down an MTX...

 I can help you with this :!:

I also have a Memotech MTX complete with PSU. I have even drawn out the power supply details including a pin-out.
However, all the info is stored as hard storage in a file (on paper!) and I am working late shifts this week. If you can stand the wait while I try to access my memory, I will try and dig it out at the weekend

Meanwhile here's a picture of the transformer to keep your interest alive

There are four lights!
Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:
Looking forward to summer later in the year.

Thanks for that picture. It looks like the PSU is just a transformer - The docs must be right and the MTX takes 22, 18 & 9V AC.

Wow! I didn't know that Memotech was making also its own computers.

Interesting.
Then you should watch the film "L.I.S.A. der helle Wahnsinn" (original title "Weird Science"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weird_Science_%28film%29)
where two youngsters create a sexy girl with the help of a mtx512.
This is the main reason why men buy this computer!

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.
