ZX81 Case

Post by RWAP »

Does anyone know what Sinclair designed the small cut-out for in the bottom of the ZX81 case?

On mine, it is a small recess to the right of the expansion port, with two indentations presumably for screws. The ZX81 rampack would not have suffered from wobble if it had been designed to use this feature.

So what did Sinclair design it for?

Can You provide any photos? I tend to not to lift my ZX-81 because of the RAMpack, You know.

I always wondered about the extra molding suggesting a different TV output. If you look at this picture (massive BTW). http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... erface.jpg then you'll see what I mean - to the left of the RF output is a second unused, uncut hole for a socket.

The bottom of those 2 pics shows the indentation where the 2 screw holes are (to the right of the expansion port).

I'm afraid I can notice only the one near to video (TV) port.
As far as I know that's the place where TIMEX 1000 has its video output.
Probably. ;)

The TIMEX SINCLAIR dosen't has a video output... maybe a plan from Sinclair boy's but I don't know of any Times Sinclair 1000 or 1500 that comes with video output...
In Argentina there are two clones named "CZ 1000 Plus" and "CZ 1500 Plus" and both comes with VIDEO output from factory but in a different case :)

Perhaps this was one of those sinclair things, where they would use whatever they could get there hands on (Cheaply) at the time, perhaps there was a different modulator that had it's output in a different place ?

Just a thought.
