Did anyone ever make a disk drive for the ZX81?
I designed such an Item in 1983.
Based on 3" and another with 3.5" Floppy
It worked very properly and was able to make data transfert between ZX81and ZX spectrum.
Roughly one thousand pieces had been pruduced
Due to change in the company strategy we stopped this small production in 1986.

It was part of a full system called VP100 who included Display keyboard 64 k Memory board etc.....

The Disk drive system uses conventional components easy to procure.
I think I still have schematics and PCB prints somewhere
If somebody have an interest, please feel free to ask.

If anyone is interested,
I have access to a batch of 3,5" disk drive units, unused.
I could set some on sell my retro if there is interest.
Kind regards
Paul
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.

Is there a description how it is used?
With rand usr, or via additional commands, patched ROM?
Kind regards

No, its just the naked disk drive without case in a anti static bag.
Standard 1.44 MB drives with 720k capability.
Mitsumi D359M3D.
I have twenty of those.
Kind regards

I guess the question is whether there is an easy way of setting them to DS0 - master (as PC drives by default are set as DS1 - slave) - there may be a jumpers for selecting this, or a solder pad...

For old systems this is mainly a question of the correct (twisted) cable.
For a new interface it could also be made by a jumper on the board.
Kind regards
