TreeForth,H4TH ROM and word processor

Post by BlackCanyonFX »

Hello everyone,

I have a word processor for Tree Forth (H4th,"Husband" Forth....) that I can't get off of tape to test.
The Cassette says," WORD-TREE A word processor for use with TREE-FORTH".

Can anyone give it a shot if I upload the file as a standard .wav or .mp3?
I do not believe that there is a problem with the tape, I just don't have the rom.

I also have a similar WP in basic/mc but have no idea as to the I/O requirements for either of these.

??

thx GTB

Sounds like a fun challenge :)

You'll need to upload the WAV in its best quality to some locker service I think though - upload limits most places wont allow that kind of size file.

Hi BC
Thanks to the kindness of Good Sir Morris I do have the rom. :D
Just a thought does it make a difference if mine is for a pal system (h4th) :?:
Anyhow if You like I can PM You My e-mail address and You can send the file to me, I do a lot of p to wav messing around as I am an old school tape user.
If I can get it to work I will convert to p file and post here for all to use. :D

Have sent Black Canyon my e mail address.
The only problem I can think of is that the h4th rom uses it's own save and load routines and EO might not accomodate them. :(

Howdy Moggy!
Got your PM. (see my latest 2012 post for where I've been...sigh)
I will get a .wav out to you early next week. Hope you can make use
of the file. Since I don't have a Forth ROM I can't test it, of course,
so lemme know how it goes when you get the file.

Hi Greg
Just dowloaded the wav? (mp3)
The EPROM as sold in the uk was either a 2564 device which more or less ran "as is" but more often than not a 2764 which came on a small pcb to take into account the 81/ts1000 ROM socket pinouts.
To make the 2764 run requires some nasty cross wiring and pin bending, which I can send pics of.
If You have access to a Programmer the rom images exist for h4th and the NTSC version Treeforth, plus, happily, the manual still exists.

Hey there, Moggy!
I had the original T-forth ROM back in the day. I used it extensively in motion picture FX,
but alas, times move on and I lost the dern thing. I didn't even know that there was a PAL
version. ATM I don't have an 'old fashioned' EPROM burner, but it isn't so much a prb of
building one as that of finding the time (still have a nice UV eraser tho... ;) ). The world of flash
(or EEPROM) has made me a bit lazy, I guess...lol.

Lemme know if you get it to work though...thx, GTB

BTW- Has anyone but me read "Son of a Cheap Video"?

Hi Greg
Yes the original, as far as I'm aware, is David Husbands H4th rom for the PAL system , the Treeforth ROM being a copy.
No luck with the WAV I'm afraid ,too much noise and three very distinct tape glitches. :(
Some good news however in another thread on the forum someone mentions that the EEPROM 2864 is a direct pinout for the 2764 so You wont need the old style burner You mention. :D just the rom images in the zip file in My last post.

Hope this helps, Greg
