is there any noticeable difference between the 128k model and the 48K version, other than basic?

The 128K BASIC however uses a full screen editor instead of a line editor. This new editor accepts command words and function words as normal typed in, letter by letter entry rather than the 16k/48k keyword entry system.
Although if you wish, you can go back to 16k/48k BASIC and line editor if you want.
