Some advancement, though puzzling.
Putting the scope on the colour box monitor output I can see that it is actually putting out a signal, 15.7kHz and 2vpp. The blinking cursor is obvious, and if I press a key it's reflected on the scope. I've connected up 2 Sony PVM's, 2 Samsung LCD TVs and an old-skool mono composite monitor and the only thing that shows a glimmer of a picture is the old-skool monitor. Now I'm scrabbling around for a monitor that will display Amiga stuff since that's also 15.7kHz I think?
You can't see the blinking cursor in that pic but it's there.

I've just re-read MarcNL's post here and the picture they got on the composite monitor is the same as the one I got on the little composite CRT. Interesting. Time to break out more TVs with composite inputs as well as my Philips CM8833.
