If they write READY on the screen on power up, it’s ROM version 2. This ROM supports the Lambda Colour Pack and has color commands in Basic.

Version 1 of the ROM is more equal to the ZX81 ROM, and only have a blinking cursor on power up.

Understood. All 3 are v2. What about the oddness in the lower screen area? Is it likely to be cured by recapping?

I’m no expert in electronics.

When I had trouble with the picture it was due to timing with the RAM.

Have you tried with all the RAM Packs? They may give different pictures.

I re-capped one of them just now, made no difference. Tried without Ram pack, no difference. I suppose it's quite likely it could be the TV so I'll try another.
