Improvised internal speaker on Spectrum 128K plus

Post by Lardo Boffin »

Hi all

Just got a toastrack and it has an interesting custom feature - an internal speaker! Why, I guess I will never know but it is here so I thought I would share some photos before trying to figure out how to get rid of it...

Well, whoever did the dirty deed, at least used a proper audio power amplifier chip

And fitted it very neatly - it was surprisingly easy to remove. And I still have sound. :D

I was wondering about the improvised heat sink but given the larger case?....

Thanks. Re-capped (where possible I make sure the rating and polarity of the caps is visible - this may be a little OCD), high efficiency voltage regulator (sadly no longer keeps my toast warm) and SCART 5V mod done (no more composite output but the RGB quality is superb). Good to go! Just waiting on the Royal Mail to bring me a lovely keyboard membrane from our own RWAP.

The heatsink is very firmly attached so is going to have to stay. :?
