Hi all,

From Michigan, USA.

I'm new to the forum and pretty new to the Timex Sinclair ZX81/TS-1000.

I do own a TS-1000 and a TS-2068.

Right now I am just making my way through the Timex Sinclair 1000 User Manual and using the emulator called "EightyOne".

My goal is to learn more about this machine, have some fun, program a little and maybe even make a simple game one day. Nothing too lofty as far as my aspirations, fun is probably my main priority, as I already do lots of computer "work" in my day job.

I also have several other books about this little machine and one nice book about the TS-2068.

I have a couple questions for the group.

- Where is the best place to find other (PDF versions) books and magazines?

- What are the top (most helpful) books/magazines that you would recommend?

- Would you recommend "EightyOne" as the emulator of choice? I like it because it will emulate both of my machines.

- Anything else to recommend to a "newbie"?

The Eightyone is one of the best Emualtors. I like it very much.

Yes - EightyOne is my favorite emulator, too.
Wouldn't think I ever say that - it is probably a good tool for developing or modifying rom files as well.

Interesting note about my entry into the 8 bit world.

I was trying to figure out what year it was, 1982 or 1983.

I went to a small store near my home called K-Mart. They had two computers that I could afford. The VIC-20 and the T/S 1000. Both for around $100 USD at the time. For me it was a toss up, I just wanted a computer, but at that time the name Commodore was getting familiar as we had Commodore PET computers at school. But the PET was WAY too expensive for my family (even though I asked!). So I chose the VIC-20.

Now, through the amazing coolness of emulation I get to try out "what might have been", had I bought the T/S 1000. Plus I do have a physical T/S1000 at home to play with as well. But emulation is so handy, it allows me to "use" the T/S 1000 a lot more than if I was stuck in my home with the physical machine.

Anyway, a bit more of my story... hope I didn't bore you! Ha, ha!
