Name of Software: ZX80 Space Rescue v1/v1.1
Author: Donkeysoft
Release Date: 2017-04-17
Requirements: Original 4K ROM, 2K or more of extra RAM
Description: A game based on Intergalactic Space Rescue, originally released in 2013 for the 16K Sinclair ZX Spectrum and later ported to the ZX81 + 16K. The signal works opposite to the ZX Spectrum original game in that the signal range has to reach zero for you to successfully find the ship.

V1.1 has some improvements in the movement to keep the ship in bounds of the play area preventing movement onto the row above or below if the player's ship is placed on the first or last column of the row.

The ZX80 hardware only supports a maximum of 32K RAM: the standard 16K in the 16K-32K region where BASIC programs reside and machine code can run from, and 16K RAM in the 48K-64K region which can only be used to store data. RAM can only be added in the other unused areas of the memory map if the ZX80 is modified to have a /ROMCS line on the expansion bus to allow suppression of the echos of the ROM in those regions. So the largest size game you'll find for the ZX80 is 16K.

FALLZONE for 1K/16K ZX80/ZX81.

(Note this is a dupe of the ZX81 post since this game runs on both machines)

FALLZONE, A simple GPL2 licensed open source machine code game.
zfallzone16.zip
(6.81 KiB) Downloaded 216 times
This zip file has the source code, "zfall16b.asm" and 4 executables :
ZX81: zfall16-1k.p and zfall16-16k.p
ZX80: zfall16-1k.o and zfall16-16k.o

Note that the source can conditionally compile the same code to ZX80 and ZX81, 1k or 16k!!
(I call it 16k, actually it will run in 2k)

;
; FALLZONE Instructions: use keys QWEADZXC to move yourself (*) around.
; (Imagine a compass around the S key)
; Mines fall every time you move, avoid these.
; Collect 2 out of 3 targets ($) to go to the next level.
; Collect Freezers (F) to halt Mines-falling for a few moves.
; The higher the level, the faster the mines fall.
; The level no (1-9,A-Z) is shown on the top line. (this is the "score")
; The 1k version has a smaller screen, the 2k version uses 32x24.
; What level can you reach? Have fun!
;

Compiled with my favorite small PD z80 assembler (z80asm.c) by Bas Wijnen.
The original BASIC version of this game was written as a test for my own home built ZX81 in 1981.
I used a PD routine for the flicker-free ZX80 display, all the work happens in a long refresh.
