ZX81 35 years anniversary demo!

Post by nollkolltroll »

I've been busy creating a demo for the unexpanded ZX81, but it's a bit different: it's an 8k ROM.
I present ZEDDY35 and hope you enjoy the show.
Yes, I am a bit early with the celebrations, the birthday was 5th March 1981, but I couldn't wait.

More technical details about the demo in the readme.txt inside the zip:

Hi Adam,

I tested it on EO 1v2  Is that what I should see?
I think I set something wrong...

Is that the pal or ntsc version?
It is possible to fix in the video settings, v- or h-sync. I think I have tested with standard settings, but I might have moved one of them a pixel or two.
Real monitors do not exhibit that at all.

Edit: I had to move h-sync one key-klick to the left to get it working correctly.

Please do not use PAL or NTSC in conjunction with ZX81. Both are abbreviations for COLOR-TV standards.
PAL = Phase Alternating Line
NTSC = National Television System Committee or even better: Never Twice Same Color

ZX81 is a true binary computer: only black and white.

The difference between european and american versions of ZX81/TS1000 is the frame rate. 50Hz in Europe and 60Hz in America.

Yes, I am aware of that. BUT: most people are not into video-standards. It is easier to talk about PAL/NTSC with them, even if it is not correct.
In the future I will try to talk about 50/60Hz when doing zeddy-stuff.

Excellent job nollkolltroll ! Works great with the EightOne v1.2 emulator! :-)

Your demo inspired me to create a 35 year demo using zx81 basic.....very basic.

So if anyone's curious I have attached the program to this post.

I think the EightOne emulator is great! Thanks Michael D Wynne!!!

I can play a .mp3 version of the program on my IPOD and it loads successfully onto the zx81!!! :-)

Who would have ever thought that in 2016 one could create a program
on a current PC and transfer that same program onto a 35 year old zx81 computer!!! :-)
