If only there was a cheap MIDI synth that the zeddy could drive.

Any discussions related to the creation of new hardware or software for the ZX80 or ZX81

Nice find! But: isn't that a module that has to be loaded with sounds before it can be used? Not a big problem, but something that needs a coded solution. Good thing the zxpand already is a requirement :D

Gosh this looks cheap and nasty. I bet it sounds rubbish, and besides it would need a MIDI player C/W GM reset, a juke box if you will and some nice firmware to go with it...Er wait a minute.

Serious face.

I have all the above, with the firm/software provided by the Oxfordshire knight(thanks Charlie)and can vouch for its splendiferousness so much so that it's my goto MIDI module at the moment rather than a couple grands worth of pro modules.

For the techy minded it conforms to General Midi specs 1 and 2, though not GS or XG,has an inbuilt wave table that's a mixture of sample and FM synthesis plus a four band software controlled EQ alongside the usual effects.. chorus reverb tremolo echo etc.

Bang for buck there's nothing to touch it plus it sounds nice and whilst MIDI purists will shudder at FM synthesis being combined with anything let alone samples I think it's one of the best little toys to accompany the zeddy and Xpand and all praise to good Sir Morris for the time and effort put into this project.

Go on have a punt you know you want to. :D

No sounds needed Adam they are all inbuilt.

All it requires are MIDI files suitably converted to run on the Xpand plus Sir Morris's patent software which I'm sure will be released into the wild anytime soon and away you go.

If any interest is shown I will happily type something up instruction wise. :D

Okay, for someone who has less than ZERO musical ability and knowledge (at school they would only let me loose with the triangle!), does this sound any good?

I mean, I know what MIDI is ('cuz i'm a computer and electronics geek :ugeek: ), and I get that MIDI sends music note information via the serial data stream that is MIDI data. And I know that a MIDI synthesiser can play music. But every one I have seen comes in a large impressive looking case, often with a keyboard and clasped in the hands of a musician!

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:
Looking forward to summer later in the year.
