Here are some screenshots of a ZX81 Berzerk clone I'm working on. I was going to post some video footage, but this forum does not seem to allow it. Never mind ,here are some shots from my test screens. There's a lot of work to be done yet, but I'm pleased with it so far.

Yes, it's chroma enabled, but will also run on standard hardware.
Things to do include; collision detection, bullets, robot movement, the maze and of course evil Otto.

Re: ZX81 Berzerk Clone
how did you manage to get Color on the zx81, when it doesn't even support it, not to mention the enemy sprites and the maze? is it machine code?
In Heck, there are two options for perpetual torment:

drink nothing but a cocktail of The Last Dab and Mexican Cake blended and served with
habanero slices

Re: ZX81 Berzerk Clone
He coded for the Chroma interface which has color support through a Scart connector.

Another possibility for color (that was available back in the day) is the Lambda Colour Pack.

The Lambda Colour Pack was made for the Lambda 8300 / PC8300, but worked fine with the ZX81.

Re: ZX81 Berzerk Clone
I remember a colour interface back then though sadly not the name.
I do remember though it was housed in a white case identical to the rampack used by Stonechip electronics for their Panda range of rampacks.
It may be the one mentioned in this advertisement.

Re: ZX81 Berzerk Clone
The operation of the DDC colour interface is described here on the forum. It doesn't sound a very flexible mechanism. I was on the verge of buying one back in the day as the idea of adding colour to the ZX81 sounded incredible but I never did in the end. The DDC interface certainly wouldn't have allowed the flexibility that Chroma is allowing in Berzerk, which uses an attributes file similar in concept to that found on the Spectrum is used. Berzerk can detect if a Chroma interface is present and use the colour facilities if so, else it can fall back to black/white mode. It will be great to see the game finished and released as I think there is a lot of potential for a cracking game there.
