Board arrived!

WOW! It's a beauty! I'm itching to get the iron heated up just looking at it :)

There are some mad PCB design skills at work here - congratulations Lee!!

For those who don't have mind-reading or other telepathic remote-viewing powers I will paint a picture for you:-

Imagine the nicest thing you've ever seen smothered in nice jam giving you the nicest hug you've ever had in nicetown. It's _that_ good.

I'll keep you informed of progress, which I expect to see when the remaining parts arrive (time to test out that newly upgraded Farnell account!), though the MMC board is having a priority boost right now because I've suffered unavoidable delays.

Here's a quick picture of the new board, taken with my cellphone. Sorry it's not higher resolution; it's the only digital camera I have. :-(

Seriously - that picture doesn't do it justice - it's a gorgeous board.

sirmorris: thanks for posting that incrediable image! It's more awsome than awsome... it's awsomer (as my son would say). We'll be socketing all the chips on ours though.

Lee: the traces near D15 appear to be a wee too close to the keyboard cut line to make seperation easy.

Great photo, Sirmorris! You're ahead of me on assembly. I started with the 5v regulator, then the on-board logic probe circuit, then the crystal oscillator, then the keyboard.

The logic probe circuit is there so you can test the board as you build it. I'm guessing that most people don't have an oscilloscope or logic analyzer. :-) So, I'm writing up Heatkit style directions as I go, including testing each chip as it is added. The keyboard serves as an easy way to set inputs high or low, and the logic probe lets you check their outputs for proper operation.

To KnightFire:

The trace by D15 isn't bad; it's 0.0625" away from the cut line. But the one on the *bottom* of the board by P3 is only 0.025" away. *That's* the one that would require very careful work with a saw! When I cut boards like this, I usually use a paper cutter or metal shear.
