Has anyone ever installed one of these inside the modulator of a ZX80 ?

Yes!

I did exactly this for a forum member. I removed the existing PCB from inside the modulator (that's the hardest part). Then fitted a ZX8-CCP. I connected the black wire (0V/ground) to the inside case. Connected the red wire to the +5V supply. And threaded the yellow wire out through to the outside via the existing hole, and connected it to the video signal pad.

Fitted in the same manner as described along with a switching regulator and a ZXpand kit makes it eminently more usable,(now my football manager clone doesn't take half a day to load!!)

Great product! As suggested, I gutted the modulator box and put the CCP circuit board inside with some double-sided tape. How convenient, GND, SIGNAL, and +5V are sitting just outside of the box!

BTW, for US models the Channel 2 / Channel 3 switch can be removed now.
