Give me your ideas for 1K hires games.

Post by dr beep »

Westbank is almost finished (although it will be called "Saloon City"). In the pipeline is still Western Duel and on request Squash. For myself I still have some ideas on a simple pacman and a meteorstorm game.

I still want ideas for new games. Perhaps I can make up to another 10 hires games in 1K.

Give me ideas and I can give a thought about the possiblities.

Er... can you fit an RPG in 1K? :D That'd be worth seeing.

Obviously I'm thinking more Akalabeth: World Of Doom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akalabeth:_World_of_Doom - pre-cursor to the Ultima series - available on Apple II) than Final Fantasy VII.

Or a 1K beach volleyball game. I'd play that.

Hmmm, worth investigating.

It is a ballmovement like pong with a net and 2 or 4 players like western duel.

I can make a few graphical characters and then I need a small gameplay to fit 1K.

Drop me a PM if you need any help deciphering the rules of beach volleyball. If you were going to keep it simple (like Pong) I'd rotate the game area and base the objective around batting a ball up in the air, over the net, and down onto the ground of your opponent's side. Each team would need two 'players', but really you could get away with only being able to move one 'paddle' at a time since most volleyball exchanges follow a pattern.

That's why Akalabeth popped into my head. Once you 'roll' a character, the actual gameplay is very simple. Whether you could do it in 1K or not, I don't know. I think it's available for online play at Virtual Apple (you'll have to Google, I'm at work so can't get to it to grab the link).

Hmm. An interesting question.
At the moment I don't think of any particular game but I was thinking it would be nice to play some platform game (a bit similar to "Blocky" although without moving platforms and related with collecting some stuff. I know levels take memory-place, so the levels could be generated 'randomly' but of course with some kind of rules (to not to generate a level that is impossible to complete).
Then, if the hero collects all the 'stuff' - he goes to the next level.
Some flying (not too hard) enemie(s) might be nice although I dunno about RAM.
Just a thought anyway. I'm not sure if it's even possible to fit in 1K.
Greetzzzzzz,
Y

You know what? Car-racing.
There is _NO_ "car-racing" type game for ZX81 1K that would have hires graphic.
The existing ones are not so bad but they are *old*.

Yupp, car-racing would be really nice. And possible to make.

I was thinking of a 3D something like my 1K GrandPr1x for the ZX Spectrum. Need to work things out.
Racing means overhauling. This can be hard in 1K.

BTW got some credits at my basketballclub for the games. Showed the sources and explained it.
"Now that's thinking out of the box" was his comment.

So I am working out the sources of the next 10 games and possible ideas for the future.

So far I have the following games in my mind

- Down (same game as from Revival Studios, based on Blocky but with holes not platforms)
- Egg Jump (based on my oneliner)
- Squash (based on Pong and Outlaw)
- Pacman (based on my oneliner)
- Beach Volleyball (Videopac as base)
- Minefield
- Blockkiller (based on my oneliner)
- Cavetrip (based on my oneliner)
- Racegame (based on hires game in 2013)
- Golf (based on my 1K game for the ZX Spectrum)
- Run game (a bit like Subway surfer)
- Moon Buggy
- Space trip (based on the BASIC lowres version)
- Roller Ball ( A gyroscopic ball must be moved inside a pocket ASAP)

Is everything possible in just 1K? The future will tell!!
Do I have the time for them?
I don´t know if I will have enough time in the near future to code them. If so it will be on a slower rate than in 2012/2013.
