BASICare microsystem

Post by blueowl0708 »

Hi all,

I collect Spectrum stuff and recently got this expansion pack thing for ZX81. A search reveals that it's MIA (
http://www.zx81stuff.org.uk/zx81/publisher/BASICare
), but I don't know how up to date this is?

I have the base unit and the 16k ram module (attached/shown below).

So I guess what I'm asking is, is this really MIA and if so, what needs to be done to resolve that? :) I'll likely sell if it's of interest to anyone (separate post in SALES section, don't worry ;) ) Not looking for big bucks but want to make sure it goes to a good home :)

I don't know if anyone else here has these.

But if you are suggesting that the design be properly investigated and documented, I can do this, including reverse engineering them to work out at least a partial, or maybe even a full schematic circuit diagrams.

If this is what you want, you can either sell them. Or just loan them, then when done, I would return them.

Hi Mark,

As I already have a Sinclair ram pack, ultimately my aim is to sell it. But if there's anything of interest in there (even if only for documenting!) then I'd like that to be done as well. Is it something you'd be interested in buying? Not looking for big bucks if it's going to the right place :)

I think Mark would be the right place for your hardware - don't worry he won't dump it or put it on eBay the next day.

Yes, I can take it off your hands. And I will document it. I have to go and do some work now. I will send you a PM later...

I have now received some documentation on the BASICare system, including manuals.

There is the following:
Brochure
How to Grow Up to the Megabyte Micro
Pericon A Manual
Pericon A (Model 1) Manual
Sonus Manual

They have been added to the bottom of my ZX81 page on my website:

Rich,

Would mind if I upload these to archive.org? I've been putting everything I can get my hands on up there (see my signature). Even though I have a site about Sinclair and Timex in the context of the US, I don't expect my site will be up forever, so I'll even archive it in full at some point.

Thanks!
David
