Replacement Keyboard Membranes

Post by RWAP »

We have now got enough interest to produce some more Sinclair ZX81 Keyboard Membranes - they will of course incorporate the touch-sensitive keyboard and be self-adhesive.

Cost is likely to be £10 plus post and packing which we think is a good deal considering the extra printing costs over and above a speccy membrane!

We could get a small run of ZX80 membranes made if there is enough interest, but cost would be more likely around £25 each as we would not get more than 25 made!

Hi Rich,
I am interested to buy some membranes.
Is there still time to put something on the whishlist?
If so, what about adding some snap-mechanics as spacer between the foils?

Anyway, what is the timeplan? When can I buy some?

Rich,

I would also buy up to five membranes.

It is unfortunately, too late to change this from the original design - the tooling is being done as I type.
I could see the possibilities of adding snap-mechanics to give a more positive touch - however, it depends on whether the market is in replacement (like for like) or advancement I guess.

That sounds good.
So lets go...
Where to order and what price for a membrane with snap-mechanic?

Shit, sadly for now I don't have ZX81, but I'm working on it hard. ;) Then I will visit this thread again. ;)
Anyway the idea itself is great.

PS: Last times on our "ebay" equivalent there are only super-extra-hiper-issues of ZX81 and Timex1000. In cases, and so on... Too expensive for me. :-\

A copy of the project from the firm in Poland appears at:

http://www.rwapsoftware.co.uk/images/ZX8I.pdf

I have spotted some errors which may just be due to the character set. Certainly on the RED lettering, L's appear as the POUND sign(£):

A,S,D,F,G,H - this should be a black and white checkerboard pattern - look like wavy lines on the project. - A,S and D have black in top left corner and bottom right corner of the checkerboard.
F,G and H have black in top right corner and bottom left corner.
S - Red lettering should say LPRINT (says £PRINT here)
D - Red lettering should say SLOW (says S£OW here)
G - Red lettering should say LLIST (says ££IST here)
SPACE key is missing a RED pound (£) sign - top right corner

Where the tails meet the black overlay, could we add a (c)2008 - to reflect the original (c) 1980

Can they check the measurement from front to back (69,0 on the project) - I measure it as 70mm but then I do not have an accurate measure.
Are the tails the right length - I only measure 75,0 mm on mine here.

Can anyone else comment?

Just one obvious comment from me...

On my ZX81, there's only three colours, not four - Black, Red and Light Grey. The keywords above and below the keys are the same colour as the key background itself. Likewise, the block graphics don't use a different background colour.

Ah well spotted - I had not picked that up, although the (c)1980 is in White!
