LCD Output for ZX81

Has anyone looked into connecting an LCD direct to the ZX81 rather than using a TV - it could then be turned into a portable computer....

Hi Rich,
I've been using a 4.3" LCD monitor with a composite input, similar to this one:
I did a special supply cable, and I use a UK1200 PSU for feeding the Zeddy and the monitor. The monitor fits well on the top of the Zeddy case and works fine with a modified video output.

There are severaöl ZX81 laptops around.
I have one, which could be seen here at Zx-Team Meeting in Mahlerts (incl. a LEGO docking station, containg a keyboard-interface card, a sound card, a ZeddyNet card and a jostick card

Frustratingly I have a 7inch LCD that looks exactly like the one pictured by mhudson52
However, I can't get a good signal with it.
(works fine on my Samsung TV, so I know the ULA is good)
I've ordered a second 4.3 inch that looks very much like the one pictured by McKlaud - I'll see if it works when it gets here.
It seems that I might have to go through a pile of them to find one that works.

Second one almost worked.
However the last few lines of the screen don't display. So you can't see what you are typing. But it showed "Hello World" clearly on the first line

I found one that works well.
The hint was to find one with at least 1024x600 resolution.
