ZX80 Plastic Rivets

Post by RWAP »

If you look at the auctions on ebay, quite a few ZX80 machines have broken or missing rivets to hold the two halves of the case together.

I have come across black ones before, but presumably there must be a source of white ones somewhere out there (though people might want to put them in the same room as a heavy smoker for a week, so that they yellow to match the case !!)

Does anyone have the sizes of these rivets, so we can investigate?

Not sure of size Rich, but the Rokut rivets supplied at these links are the original type,as opposed to other push pin rivets.

OK - thanks very much - looking at that second document, we would need to find the exact sizings as there are quite a range to choose from.

I have sent an email asking for some guidance on the best way of measuring these - it may well be that we will need to send an original to them to try and match.

I do know someone who still has a ZX80 in kit form - so will ask him if I could possibly borrow one of the rivets - would need to be sent securely, so as not to lose it in the post !!

Or does anyone have a micrometer / feeler guage, able to accurately measure the hole / an existing rivet?

I took picture of all the rivets. There are two colours and two sizes. Small whites hold the case togethe, small blacks hold the keyboard to the bottom part of the case and bigger three hold the PCB to the bottom part of the case.

Sorry that the measurments are handmade, but I was too lasy to redraw it.

I think the Rokut Rivets P200 0002 should be OK.

Odd but the images don't scroll for some reason... Right click and view image to see full size.

Is it correct that there are 5 small white ones, 3 x large white rivets (only 2 are shown) and 2 x black rivets?

The larger ones appear to be different - almost like the spacers used for PC motherboards?

I have now obtained a sample and a quote for the white and black case rivets.

Unfortunately, the plastic spacers which hold the motherboard are out of stock and I can't find another supplier.

If I offered a set of these rivets (5 x white and 2 x black), what price would people be willing to pay for them?
Does £4 plus postage sound reasonable?
