Zeddy audio playing now a reality!

Post by Moggy »

Having downloaded Adam's juke box player for use via the AY chips B port I immediately sent off for a ladder DAC board to have a go at making it work.
I then noticed two things, one I had a box of the same value resistors that the board uses and also the the spand has all the B port holes nicely lined up for soldering!

Short version.

A bunch of soldered resistors later I'm now listening to some lovely music as clear as a bell. It seems that as well as MIDI the humble little zeddy can now stream audio from the SD card at a good rate and a good quality by the standards of the machine.

So thanks Adam I'm one very happy cat! :D

Now were's my copy of Dark Side Of The Moon?

Not bad for a micro that’s “supposed” to be silent

Yeah late to the party but... This project seemed good enough to dig the old zeddy out and whip up a ladder DAC...

anyhow Moggy showed me how to convert music files into the format needed for the player and i'm sitting here listening to ghostbusters on repeat :D

i have enough zeddies that i can dedicate one for a jukebox...

Thanks Moggy and Adam and the MIGHTY SIIRMORRIS

P.S.. i may be gone a while take a nimute to convert these track and i have..... lots

I knew I'd get your mojo back if I dangled a suitable carrot. :D

Which compressor are you using? Not Audacity's built in one I hope as it's junk!

You forgot to thank Charlie as well as it was a three way project !!

I've sold your TS1500 to cover the cost of the tea and Biccies I had to get in for you, glad I didn't have to buy the fish and chips!!

Apart from that I've sent you an e-mail !

Just a thought Adam.

Would it be possible to use the A-port in some way connected to another DAC for stereo? Audacity can save a stereo file as 2 split mono's so left channel to one DAC right channel to the other. Or is speed and timing an issue, I ask in all ignorance?

Moggy, stereo is indeed possible but at reduced samplerate. I don't remember if shuffling data from the card was a bottleneck or not.

Thanks for that Adam.

Best leave it as mono then as the quality is more than good enough. :D
