SOUND FROM pure ZX81 (there is a prog)

Post by yerzmyey »

Hi.

There is a program (or more) playin sound on pure ZX81.
I tested in on emul and it works.

But now I have (probably) stupid question.

Where the sound is supposed to come from?

1) From TV-set??
2) From Mic socket?
3) From Ear socket?

I am asking because I can't hear it from Mic. I mean there is something but *very* silent and behind distortion.

Thanx,
Y

The 'sound' is actually a result of noise within the computer's circuitry (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The programs that appeared on magazines and books tried to control that interference to some extent, resulting in what you could call 'sound'. :) I don't remember if it comes out of the mic port, but it should.

The sound is output as square wave to the tape output port and thus appears at the "mic" connector (very silently). If you have a monitor output added to your zeddy, the sound also appears there (louder than at the mic connector).
You have to use an external amplifier (e. g. tape recorder in "record" mode) the hear the sound.

A very good sound interpreter has been made for the pure ZX81. It is on my ZX81 web-server:

Have fun.

Many thanx.
Btw, classik.p and zx81mi.p doesn't seem to work. Well, at least I don't know how to use them.
Anyway - beatles.p is INCREDIBLE.
I'm suprised why people keep writting that ZX81 has no sound.

OK, both files works. I had broken versions (the server is very slow).
Thanx again!
ZX81 DOES HAVE SOUND! :)

I don't know if you noticed, but the files you downloaded are hosted on a real zx81, not a webpage on a 'regular' server. Yes, that ZX81 is online.

Indeed: a Z80 running at 0,00325 GHz (but always in FAST mode :-) ) having a serial link (9600 baud) to the Internet:
my Zeddy ;-)

???????????????????????????????????

It explains many things, hehe. (However Windows is not a good clint to it then, Win stops to download file if the server is too slow :( and then I have only some stumps of the files although Win thinks it's downloaded the file).

I suspect the ZX81 is connected to some HDD?

PS: Btw, sometimes it download progs not as name.p but as name.htm, I don't know why. Anyway - totally impressing thing. :) Haha. :)

Returning to the subject - seems like my ZX81 has broken Mic port or something but I can hear only noises, no sound at all.
The same while saving progs.
And I suspect it should sound like in EO emulator. Aww crap. I really will have to buy another ZX81.

Files are stored on MMC cards (max. 3, each with max. 128MB), not on tape ;-)

BASIC-programs should download as "name.P", while other data (e. g. m/c above ramtop) should download as "name.BIN".
