I thought that was normal for Sinclair’s quality control…

Thank yourself lucky they actually soldered all the connections

A nice issue one, working, bugged ROM. But it doesn’t say 550 on it! Maybe a quite early ROM?

Still needs a bit of a clean. :D

Picture is dark but rather good!

The logo looks like it could be a Signetics manufactured chip but they usually used a solid "S" rather then the composite letter s shown here.

It looks like the ROM is from the other side of the pond and made by a company called Solid State Inc.

Just scroll down to the "S" section to see info re the company.

A ZX81 with this stuck to it is due to arrive next week (argh - another one to freeze my fingers on refurbishing in the garage…):

I assume it is a stick on keyboard for maybe a different programming language? Anyone recognise it?

Looks like a stick on keyboard for some Forth, as it has the char @ ! [ ] which are used extensively in Forth.

It's the overlay to use with Artic's ZX Forth which is on tape software so the zeddy should have a normal ROM fitted, unless somebody has managed to burn said Forth to an EPROM. In which case get rid and fit a standard ROM because as Forths go it's pretty crap!

What did the sellers advert say Lardo about this little zeddy?

Very little! Untested, no way to test, given to him so no idea what any of it does. Pretty much the usual!
