ZX81 With Byte Back BB-1 Board on eBay

Post by louie55 »

Just thought I would share this link with anyone that might be interested. I'm selling a ZX81 with a Byte Back BB-1 Control Board on eBay (USA). Working condition is unknown. Also, I don't have the power supply or any other accessories. I currently only have it listed for USA buyers only, however, if anyone from the UK is really interested, I can try to come up with a shipping quote for you. Just let me know.

Here is the link:

Did you ever use this unit? Is there anything you can tell us about how good or bad it was?

No, however I am a computer geek, so it would have been cool to play around with it, but I received it in a box with some other misc. electronics and had never even heard of it before I did some research on it. It didn't come with the power supply or any other cables so I can't test it so I have no idea what the working condition is. I did find a few 9V DC adapters laying around at my house, but the plug on the ZX81 looks different than a normal AC adapter plug so I couldn't plug any of them in. And even if I did, I don't have an adapter to plug the TV out into my TV. I assume it's supposed to be plugged into the RF coaxial cable input and not the auxiliary composite (yellow) input on the TV. This fact is made clear by the Channel 2 or 3 selector on the bottom of the ZX81.

I wish I did know if it works.

I'm interested in bidding on this. I'm in the UK but I have relatives in the US. Would you be OK shipping to them? I'm comfortable with the no returns policy.

Sure, I'll ship to your relatives if they are in the US. Just give me their address if you win the auction. Go ahead and try to bid and let me know if it doesn't let you. I'm not sure if I have it set to block bidders outside the USA or not?? If you can't bid on it, then I'll try to change the auction so that it lets you bid.

I've acted as an intermediary more than once and people among Sinclair circles know me quite well. I reserve the right to decide who to help based on how long someone has been among us and if they've shown they can be trusted. I think you would be ok. :) All I ask is for help to cover my time and expenses (re-packaging when necessary, going to the Post Office, filling out forms, etc.). It is time-consuming but some people in the past thought I should do everything for them for absolutely nothing. They assumed my time wasn't worth anything, so now I'm careful in choosing who I help. Drop me a pm if you need help or want to talk more about this.

Well, it appears there are many companies that do exactly that:

http://www.myus.com/en/our-services/
http://www.usa2me.com/
http://www.shipito.com/
http://www.usabox.com/
http://www.box4me.com/

What they charge, I don't know. You'll have to do research on each site and find the costs.

Some sellers will even make an exception and ship internationally if you ask nicely and if you have a good feedback. I know because I've ordered things from the U.K. before.
