New Product - MrX AY Sound Interface

Post by RWAP »

We would like to announce yet another alternative for people wanting to explore AY sounds in their ZX81 programs.

The MrX Sound Interface is now available to purchase (well, the first two units - the next 8 are in the process of being soldered).

Designed by in Germany, this plugs straight into the ZX81's expansion port and has a through connector. Like the ZXpand-AY, this is also Zon-X compatible and uses the YM2149F sound chip.

Hmmmm. Actually this one - and the ZXpand AY - are interesting propositions to me, as I could make a hardcore move and play concert with AY-RIDERS not from Spectrum but........ from ZX81!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Most interesting, looking from this point of view.

Hi yerzmyey,
please do not get confused about the two existing AY-Modules on the 2012 market:

http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/detail ... odule-2000
and
http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/detail ... rface-2117

Mr.X is designed for those who want to use AY Sound with or without ZXpand, while the ZXpand-AY is the module that plugs directly into the ZXpand and gives full AY support for ZXPand requireing this ZXpand as first device.

Mr.X will work together with zxpand (if you choose the design with Busconnector like on memotech rams), but you will have two addons on your Zeddy expansion bus connector then while ZXpand will plug as only device into your Zeddy, even if you have the ZXpand-AY on it (which sits on the ZXPAND and does not have the danger of wobble there). This setup results in much less wobble problems.

Both devices are desigend to listen to the same adresses, one of which is compatible to ZonX.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.

This is true for both devices, as they are designed the same way ;)

Quite true Paul but something like the Xpand is needed for quick loading of sample.

Absolutely true, that's why I pushed him to the ZXPAND-AY direction.
I have both systems and ZXPand-AY on ZXPand is my favorite option.
The Mr.X is very good if you have a USB or Floppy, or selfmade SD-Card system, specially because Mr.X is also available with a VG64 connector giving supersafe connection to ZX96, ZX97, ZX2000 Systems.
Once you own a ZXPand, ZXPand-AY is not only cheaper but also better solution as addon for ZXPand.

Yupp, I know, I know. And - to be honest - I wouldn't take a risk to play concert from ZX81 and tape-recorder.
I mean, it might be _extremly_ hardcore - hence interesting - but far too dangerous.

Supposedly I will buy both of them: ZXPand with AY for safe software/data access, and the regular new ZonX just in case (one can't be TOO cautious).

Hmmm. I have to find e'mail address to Rich.

Paul:

Thx a lot, I noticed it before. Still, looks like I must have all of them.
