Going to install mine this weekend.

Is there any trick to getting the old RF modulator out?

Do you mean the whole thing including the metal case, or just the PCB inside?

To remove the metal case, desolder the metal tabs that go through the ZX81 PCB. You need a powerful iron with a large tip, or you stand no chance.

To remove the PCB from inside a modulator, cut off all wires to it, desolder the resistor connection to the phono/RCA socket.
If there is a screening plate separating the components on the PCB, remove this.
Then leaver/lift out the PCB.

Note that it has been a while since I last did this, so I may have forgotten an important detail

Don't use a Philips driver - take a normal with a slot only. See here:

Put the driver in the wider of both (crossing) slots.

This is a hard job to get all of it out as the metal case takes all the heat from your iron. If you just want to use the inbuilt chinch connector of the RF case than it is sufficient just to remove the wire internally going to the middle pin, feed the yellow or now brown cable into the free plastic hole and solder it on the middle pin instead. It is also possible to solder a small capacitor of 100pF or similar between old (removed) wire and middle pin (in series) to have both, video out and RF out. Not sure if this will be totally free of distortions but you may try as some other people did.

The board can be sticked with adhesive tape anywhere in the near, on top of the cpu for example. I can not find a suitable foto right now but maybe other users have ...
Good luck !

Hi Pokemon

Just wondering when some more ZX8-CCBs will be back up for sale? I'm down to my last one!

Thanks

Lardo

So the first good news is, ZX8-CCB is still available.
The second good news is, that I have less work shipping them out (but soldering cables still needed from me).
The third good news is, that it has industrial soldering quality. 8-)

The bad news is, that the price requires to be increased to EUR 9.90 (was EUR 7.50 before) due to this production cost, financing and taking risk of unsold boards and the requirement of maybe doing a new production run if the last board was sold again. So initial cost was much higher than just ordering the boards only and components as requested in lower quantities. Anyway it is at the end still cheaper than ZXvid and may found interest by retro fans. At least I did spend about 1000 EUR first, but there is a minimum quantity order to get the cost down ...

Here are pictures (more boards produced than shown here)
