@1024MAK @sirmorris

Thank you both for the kind words and the encouragement. I too think preserving this material is a worthwhile cause. And, I just acquired some more material on ebay tonight so I have no shortage of future projects. :D

Best,

-mark

PS...To keep everyone in the loop, I'll just keep updating this thread each time I load a batch of material to IA. Is that helpful or overkill?

Thank you very very much.
Updating this thread is definitely no overkill but very welcome.
I downloaded issue one and was surprised about it. Didn't know them before. I appreciate your work very much.
Kind regards Paul

6 more issues loaded of SYNTAX ZX80

Post by msellan »

I'm glad folks are finding this material helpful. When I bought my ZX80 back in '81, a flyer for SYNTAX came with my computer (which I'll eventually scan too  ) but I had barely scraped together enough to buy the computer so I couldn't afford the newsletter. I only saw one for the first time a number of years later.

I've been fascinated with some of the amazing info that's in these newsletters as I've been scanning them. I wish I had been a subscriber back in the day. For example, apparently MicroAce was going to release a "flicker-free" board for the ZX80 at some point (has anyone ever seen one?) And through an exclusive offer between Sinclair and SYNTAX, Sinclair offered subscribers used ZX80's for like $49.00 at one point. Fun stuff.

Anyway, that was a long-winded way of telling you all that issues 1-6 of volume 2 are loaded to the Internet Archive. :D

A little follow-up: I recently purchased a number of issues and uploaded them to archive.org.

Here's Mark (msellan)'s uploads:
https://archive.org/search.php?query=cr ... d+Group%22

A lone issue: https://archive.org/details/Syntax_ZX80 ... d_Group_US

And my uploads: https://archive.org/details/SyntaxMagazine

I'm going to reach out to Jason Scott about consolidating all three into one collection.

For the last couple years, I've been trying to recreate my collection of Syntax ZX80 that I loaned to someone 30 years ago and subsequently forgot who. I had written a few articles that were published and would like to see them again. I still have my original ZX80 and ZX81 computers stored away (along with my Atari 800 and 800 XL). The collection at archive.org is far from complete but I did find an article or two I wrote. Still looking for the others.

Archive.org has the following volumes/issues:
Vol 1, Issues 1-2 (complete)
Vol 2, Issues 1-10 (11-12 missing)
Vol 3, Issues 3, 8-12 (1, 2, 4-7 missing)
Vol 4, Issues 1-12 (complete)
Vol 5, Issues 1-11 (12 missing?)

The only missing issue I have on hand is Vol 3, Issue 2. I will attempt to scan and upload this to archive.org soon.

Anyone else have the others? (particularly from the first 3 volumes).

Thanks!

(edited to show Vol 1 complete)

Volume 1 only consists of 2 issues - November 1980 (number 1) and December 1980 (number 2). January 1981 is volume 2 number 1. So the archive isn't quite so bad as you think.

You're correct. If I recall correctly, the person who posted vol 2 has all missing issues except v5 n12. We're on the lookout for that issue.

Do you mind sharing which articles you wrote?
