Hot ZII?

Post by dessony »

Everybody,

Do we have a Hot ZII software on this website?

I copied the software as a .wav file. I haven't converted it into a .p file yet.

Thanks,
DesSony

We have it for download and discussion in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1381

There is the manual as well.

However the 16k version of the program is not working. If you have that version, I would be more than glad for that.

Hi Dessony,

Try this method to clean your dumped signal, if the game can run on a true ZX81:

Let me know.

/Thanks Martin/

Martin,

I am almost stretching my hair off my head in frustration for an hour while reading the instruction on hooking up on the hardware side! :? Can you draw a picture of the correct cable and its port settings of the cassette recorder, the ZX81/TS1000, and the modern PC

NOP
IN A, (7F)
OUT (7F), A
JR DIS; -7d or 249d

Am I reading and typing in an assembly language correctly? What will the screen look like after RAND USR 16514 entered?

Thank you very much.

Cheers,
DesSony

First of, if you have other storage than tape on your ZX81 like SD card on a ZXpand, then just use that.

If you have a MIC input (often pink) on your pc you connect it to the MIC output of your ZX81. The you use software like Audacity or even simpler Windows Sound Recorder, to record the sound to a WAV file.

You need a mono cable and you probably already have that for your tape recorder.

When you have the WAV file, you can upload it here, and we can help you convert it to a P file.

Yes, DesSony.

The computer pickup the input signal $7F (IORQ) on the "MIC" (LOAD) socket, and throw the transmited byte to the "EAR" (SAVE) socket.
If the tape loader is correctly set, the ZX81 read the bit, and launch the value to be saved with the proper output signal !

As Martin said the signal is sometimes too difficult to read on some tape, so use a suitable audio tool.

The only problem with this method is that you have to read the program before retrying the backup for the dump, because any read error can shift the harmonic train, if one or more bits are not read properly (no output signal on the OUT $7F !).

It is therefore necessary to make more than one backup to avoid problems of conversion or reading with EO, or use a software less capricious and specialized (see Martin's link) or "ZxSpectape".

Have Fun.

(…)
Or read it on EO (wav input)… if the signal is clean.
Don't know if a zip big wav can be enclosed in a message, juste use a share web site, and put le link to Martin !

But, you had to learn this funny language first…

All the best.

My setup is different. I don't have an old tape recorder for the ZX81.

I use and old walkman connected to my phone to record the sound. Then I transfer the sound file from the phone to the Mac. Here I use software to reconstruct the P file.

A little complicated, but it' the best I have.

You can connect the "Ear" socket directly on the computer…
To avoid noises and save errors.
