Toastrack power supply???
Hi guys. I've just picked up (be here next week) a bare Spectrum Toastrack. Not tested but that's no isuue as I'll probably have it refurbed. My question is, does the original 48k PSU work with these (I have three!) or is it a specific one? If so, what's the ideal replacement to get if anyone knows? Cheers for the help.

Re: Toastrack power supply???
Yes, there is a specific PSU, but it will work for testing purposes with a UK1400 PSU as used with 48K/+ ZX Spectrum machines.

Re: Toastrack power supply???
Cheers guys. Just wasn't sure the 48k one would be ok on longer sessions. Is it same spec, I know it doesn't 'match' the machine but I'll live with that for now.

Re: Toastrack power supply???
I think the official toastrack PSU has a higher Amp output - 1.8 vs 1.4.

Re: Toastrack power supply???
I should add that the ZX Spectrum 128K (toastrack) consumes about 960mA if there are no expansions fitted. This is under the 1.4A maximum that a UK1400 PSU is rated for. So although not recommended, it is possible to use a UK1400 to power a ZX Spectrum 128K. You just have to be very careful if you intend to use any expansions or interfaces.

Re: Toastrack power supply??? Now I'm confused!
Thanks for all the replies. Now I use a DivMMc future on my 48k so I'll be using that on the toastie as well. Should I get an adaptor with more than 1.4A or less than 1.4A? Or is the 48k PSU good to go? Seems to be mixed messges here, or I'm confused! By the way I've tested it today and I'm getting a garbage display thru SCART but great sound, nothing brilliant on RF either picture or sound, but loading works thru PlayZX 100%, and amazingly every key works! I expected this as it's been hid away for years on end and I'll be sending itnawaynfor refurb/repair.

Re: Toastrack power supply???
I use the one from my link above, a modern one which I think has 1.5A output. I have run it for many hours with a DIVMMCFuture plugged in without it getting warm so I guess its fine.
I would not personally go with less than 1.5A. Sinclair were not given to spending money unnecessarily so if they put an 1.85A PSU in the box it was for a reason.
If you are in the UK Mutant Caterpillar Games refurb / repair these (Iโm sure others do as well but thats who I use).

Re: Toastrack power supply???
Cheers. I'll get one ordered. Only got given a bare unit so this and SCART lead are necessary. Mutanat did one of my ZX81's and I got my DivMMc from them so that's where it'll be going. Brilliant service, and a bar of chocolate! If you know, you know!
